Course: Ledges Golf Club
Location: South Hadley, MA
Date Played: July 20, 2006 Update July 29, 2007
Played By: Jason & Ross
Overall Score: 56
Friendliness of Staff: 8
Starter was on a power trip. Pro shop manager does not leave a lasting impression. We only encountered 3 employees. Limited staff.
Update 7/29/07. Great experience with all staff today. The kid in the pro shop was extremely friendly. The starter was busy, but nice to everyone checking in. The ranger on the course was very friendly and stopped to ask how our day was and how the course was.
Facilities/Pro Shop: 3
Pro shop is tiny and is like a trailer. No bar, TV, dining tables. Small selection of merchandise available. Average bathroom facility. There is a driving range, but far from the parking lot and pro shop. Practice green is big, but inconsistent compared to course greens.
Update 7/29/07. Nothing to update here, only that a new club house will be opening in 2008. We're looking forward to it.
Quality/Value of Food/Snacks: 5
Beer was cold, good selection of canned beers. Basic pub food menu and snack selections. No where to it other than on the course. Prices were average.
Fairway Conditions: 8
A couple of spotty fairways, but in general they were green, plush and thick. No weeds on the fairways. No transition from fairway to rough. The rough was thick, but weedy.
Update 7/29/07. The fairways have improved, but not to the point of increasing their rating.
Greens Conditions: 6
OK shape, but very inconsistent. Greens were not healing and repairing themselves well from ball marks, divots and spike marks. A lot of dead spots. No disease, no browning overly evident.
Update 7/29/07. The greens are getting better and I've heard that they really improved a lot in the spring. However, other golfers are still not repairing their ball marks, which is contributing to some of the greens appearing very beat up. It also looked as though some golfers were still out there with metal spikes, as the greens were torn up a bit from someone walking around.
Scenery: 8
Great view of Mt. Tom. Nice rolling hills. Beautiful mountain views. Great potential for amazing fall scenery. Beautiful houses around the course.
Difficulty of Course: 6
For longer hitters, cannot use driver on ¾ of the holes (must use 3W or irons), a lot of blind tee shots. Long rough and weeds make it difficult if you are not accurate. Who makes 93 yard par-3’s on an 18 hole course??? Overall, an easier course if for an accurate, frequent player. Short course... 6,100 from the blues.
Value Received: 7
$35 for 18 holes with cart on the weekend. Definitely will play again as it’s a cheap round.
Speed of Play/Design of Course: 4
Back 9 - two par-3’s in 3 holes... caused players to be bunched up. Par-3’s should be around par-5’s. Too many holes that you can’t use driver or can’t see where the ball goes. Nice bridge built through the swamp.
19th Hole: 1
Non-existent!!!
There is no beer cart on this course.
Comments:
Good course for a quick, cheap round with no expectations. Good option when busier courses are packed. Good location, poor design. This course still has some potential to be much better. When the new clubhouse is open, they will see more golfers hanging out after their rounds, more leagues playing there, and will be selling a lot more merchandise. |
